Today a lot of teenagers use different kinds of social media which means a lot of teenages go through depression. A 2017 study of over half a million eighth through 12th graders found that the number exhibiting high levels of depressive symptoms increased by 33 percent between 2010 and 2015. Mental health is serious thus a lot of people think it’s a joke or something which is not important. In 2014 it was reported that there were 42,773 alone suiced in United States. This is a reason why people take such big steps because when they don’t have anyone to talk to or reach out to and the only option they see in life is death which can be the cause of anything but mostly because of depression or anxiety or it can be anything related to mental illness. Mental disorders affect nearly 20 percent of American adults; nearly 4 percent are severely impaired and classified as having serious mental illness. These disorders are often associated with chronic physical illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes. They also increase the risk of physical injury and death through accidents, violence, and suicide. Not to mention, in the media it's promoted to not be severe at all or reduced severeness. Also, sometimes portrayed as beneficial (ex: OCD). To add on, mental health is, especially, not taken seriously or else when it becomes crippling. Nevertheless, there has been a stigma that has been around mental health.Denoting a person that struggles with mental health as an other or reduces them from a whole to one that is tainted and discounted. Highlighting the person with the mental health issue, then the mental health itself as the societal issue. Additionally, the disclosing of someone's mental issue to the public is often discounted. Lastly, another stigma shown by the media is mental health issues as being untreatable or unrecoverable. All these twisted views are what influences the way mental health is shown to the public.
